The Guide To Giving Gifts to the Boss
September 24, 2009
Gift giving can be a harrowing experience, expecially if you're not sure just what to give, and when. I will be publishing a series of gift giving ettiquette, how to budget your gift purchases, and who and when to give gifts. First I will start with buying gifts for your boss. When is it appropriate to buy a gift for your boss? First of all, buying a gift for your employer is a very subtle gesture, and should be well thought out. The number one mistake one could make in doing so is to overspend. This will embarass your boss, and make it seem like you are trying to gain special treatment by your supervisor. This could be a terribly akward moment, indeed! Instead, focus on your boss's interests throught the year, and in casual conversations. The second biggest mistake is buying an item that is inappropriate. Being observant during the year about your supervisor's hobbies and interests makes it a very easy choice, and most simple items can be inexpensive, yet thoughtful. Is your boss a sports fan? Perhaps a coffee mug, license plate, toss pillow or pennant of his or her favorite team would be a nice choice. Keep it "personal", but at the same time "impersonal". If your supervisor is a woman, she may mention that she likes to cook, or garden, or enjoys tropical fish? Try seeking out a new kitchen gadget, a fantastic new gardening tool, or a book or calendar depicting tropical fish every month. Perhaps your boss is a collector of something? Try to remember specific conversations over time, and find out what he or she collects, and buy a small, token collectible gift. This gift doesn't have to be expensive. I think you are getting the idea! Selecting the right gift can be stressful and difficult, but always keep it simple when buying for the boss. You can also engage other co-workers to pitch in, and get the boss a great gift basket, containing his or her favorite foods, teas, special coffees or bath products. This will take the burden off the entire staff of having to decide, and you'll be lauded for having such a great idea! Remember that www.elitegiftsonline.com is open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day!
